Profitec Pro 700 review: a discontinued rotary dual boiler worth verifying used

A strong traditional dual boiler whose exact revision and used condition now decide the value Whole Latte Love three-quarter product image of the final-generation Profitec Pro 700 with E61 group, black gauges and rotary valves

Consider the final North American Profitec Pro 700 when a 0.75 L brew boiler, 2.0 L steam boiler, E61 group, rotary pump and reservoir or direct-plumb flexibility suit a permanent espresso station. The checked Whole Latte Love page is now an old product listing, and Profitec DRIVE occupies the current manufacturer position. Historical US references cluster around the $3,000 class, but that is not a current new-stock price. Verify revision, voltage, plumbing parts, flow-control hardware, water history, service evidence and seller protection before paying for a remaining or used unit.

My assessment

This is a research-led assessment, not Coffeedant testing. The score refers to the final North American Pro 700 generation shown by the retired Whole Latte Love listing, with black gauges, front PID and shot timer, sprung valves, stainless boilers, rotary pump and tank or mains-water selection. Earlier pre-2019 machines, regional electrical packages and owner-installed flow-control kits are not treated as identical.

Research-led assessment 4.3/5 See all six categories ↓
Discontinued US historical price classAbout $3,000 historical US referenceThe current Whole Latte Love page identifies Pro 700 as an old product listing rather than normal new inventory. An owner review published in 2022 described it as a $3,000 machine. Used, open-box and remaining-stock prices vary by revision, condition, included flow control, plumbing parts, warranty and seller, so no current normal street price is claimed.

Buy it if

  • Buyers comparing a documented used rotary dual boiler for a permanent espresso station
  • Households that want independent brew and steam temperatures plus strong simultaneous manual steaming
  • Owners who value quiet rotary-pump operation and the option to plumb in with suitable water treatment

Skip it if

  • You want a current model with normal new-stock warranty and integrated modern profiling tools
  • You need fast verified cold-start readiness, volumetric stopping or automated milk
  • You cannot verify revision, water history, scale exposure, service condition and seller protection

What works

  • Separate PID-controlled boilers and a 2.0 L steam boiler support demanding home drink queues
  • Rotary pump enables quieter operation and reservoir or direct-plumb flexibility
  • Final generation adds timer, updated valves, black gauges and later warm-up programming
  • E61 construction, support material and visible service layout aid qualified maintenance conversations

The trade-offs

  • Discontinued status shifts the buying decision toward condition, parts and used-market risk
  • Large, heavy chassis needs permanent counter, cabinet and plumbing planning
  • E61 thermal mass still asks for warm-up and manual shot stopping
  • Flow control, accents and plumbing hardware vary and must not be assumed from the model name

At a glance

Before you choose

Is Profitec Pro 700 still current?
No in the checked manufacturer and US specialist records. Whole Latte Love labels it an old product listing, and Profitec DRIVE now fills the current rotary dual-boiler role.
Is it a true dual boiler?
Yes. Separate 0.75 L brew and 2.0 L steam boilers have independent PID control, and the steam boiler can be disabled when milk service is not needed.
Can Pro 700 be plumbed in?
Yes, the scored generation can run from its reservoir or a direct water connection through the rotary pump. Plumbing requires correct pressure control, water treatment, drain planning and installation.
Is flow control standard?
No. Many listings and owner examples include an added Profitec or retailer flow-control kit, but the base Pro 700 should not be described as factory-equipped without checking the group hardware and invoice.
How quickly is it ready?
Later retailer material describes Fast Heat Up, but a large thermosyphon E61 group still needs a stable full-system warm state. Coffeedant did not measure readiness, and earlier revisions can behave differently.
What replaced Pro 700?
Profitec DRIVE is the current successor. It keeps the rotary dual-boiler and tank-or-plumb architecture while adding integrated flow control, newer pre-infusion tools, OLED feedback and current-model support.

02Start with the decision

Pro 700 final generation in one honest frame

The Profitec Pro 700 final generation is a rotary-pump E61 dual boiler with a 0.75 L stainless brew boiler, 2.0 L stainless steam boiler, independent PID control, automatic shot timer, dual gauges, adjustable brew pressure, switchable reservoir or direct water connection and a switchable steam boiler. The Product schema and scores refer to the final North American Pro 700 generation represented by the retired Whole Latte Love listing. It has black gauges, front PID and timer, sprung valves and later Fast Heat Up behavior. Earlier pre-2019 versions, non-US electrical packages and modified machines remain historical context rather than silent equivalents. Flow control and decorative trim are options unless the exact unit proves otherwise. Pro 700 is discontinued in the checked channel and DRIVE is the current successor. That identity matters because two machines can promise the same drink while asking for completely different work before and after it. The useful first question is not whether Pro 700 final generation can make coffee. It is whether its heating, preparation, milk, water, and cleaning sequence matches the way the household will actually use it. [source] [source] [source]

The strongest reason to choose it: It combines dual-boiler control, substantial steam capacity, a quiet rotary pump and plumbing flexibility in a service-oriented platform. The main reason to pause: It is discontinued, physically large and revision-sensitive, so water history, included hardware and service evidence now matter as much as its original specification. Those two statements explain the rating more accurately than a long feature list. A high score in one dimension does not erase a compromise elsewhere, and the overall rating should be read with the six category scores rather than alone.

Evidence boundary: this page does not claim that Coffeedant brewed on, measured, opened, or durability-tested the Pro 700 final generation. Product performance varies with inputs, setup, maintenance, technique, revision, and region.

03The first week

Set up the whole station, not only the machine

Before power, match the listing, serial information, rating plate and control layout to the final generation, then inspect the cabinet, group, valves, gauges, hoses, reservoir, tray and cord for damage. Decide whether the machine will use its tank or a direct water supply before commissioning. A plumbed installation needs suitable pressure regulation, water treatment, shutoff access, leak checks and drain planning. Use the matching manual, remove transport hardware, prime as directed and leave counter depth for the portafilter and hoses. A used unit deserves documented service and qualified inspection when condition is uncertain. [source] [source]

Espresso: control the variables the machine leaves to you

The 0.75 L brew boiler gives the PID a direct brew-water target while the thermosyphon E61 group carries its own thermal mass. The rotary pump, brew-pressure gauge, shot timer and adjustable expansion valve support a controlled manual recipe, but none replaces a capable grinder, scale, puck preparation or a stable warm state. Direct plumbing can add line-pressure pre-infusion before pump pressure, while reservoir operation changes that first phase. Optional group flow control can shape flow, but a modified example must not define every Pro 700. Independent editorial and owner evidence describe repeatable traditional espresso once the machine and group are settled; Coffeedant did not measure puck temperature or pressure. [source] [source]

Milk: speed only matters when texture stays controllable

The 2.0 L steam boiler can run while the brew boiler holds its own setpoint, giving the final Pro 700 more steam reserve than smaller home dual boilers. Retailer material described high steam pressure and a four-hole tip, but those claims do not establish one steaming time. Boiler setpoint, fill state, tip, pitcher volume, milk, purge and technique change the pace. Owners commonly value repeated milk drinks, yet a home machine still needs competent operation, suitable electrical service and recovery awareness rather than a commercial throughput promise. Workflow: count every touch from cold start to a clean counter

Lift the E61 lever to begin extraction and the PID timer, then lower it manually at the target yield. Two gauges separate pump and steam pressure, and the steam boiler can be disabled. Reservoir mode adds filling and tray work; a correctly installed water and drain connection removes much of that handling but adds shutoff, filter, pressure and leak responsibilities. Fast Heat Up reduces the boiler phase but does not make the group and portafilter instantly stable. Daily work still includes weighing, manual stopping, purging, wiping and backflushing. Build and service: judge access, support, and failure response

The record shows a roughly 31 kg machine with stainless housing, stainless boilers, E61 group, rotary pump and an organized internal layout intended for service access. That supports qualified repair planning, not a promised lifespan or low repair cost. Final and earlier generations changed controls, warm-up behavior and some visible components, and a used unit may include owner or retailer modifications. Serial-specific parts, local technician experience and corrosion or scale condition matter more than broad reputation. Boiler, pump, mains-water, pressure and electrical work belong with a qualified technician. [source] [source]

Purge and wipe the steam wand after every milk use, rinse the hot-water outlet, empty the tray when not directly drained, refresh the reservoir when used and keep the shower screen, gasket, baskets and portafilters clean. Backflush with water routinely and use detergent only as directed. Protect both boilers with suitable water and service guidance rather than improvising a full dual-boiler descale. Inspect plumbed hoses, fittings, regulator and shutoff for leaks. Stop use for abnormal pressure, failed fill, electrical faults, burning smells or water inside the cabinet.

Features: separate daily help from brochure decoration

Useful final-generation features include independent boiler setpoints, automatic shot timer, ECO and cleaning functions, steam-boiler disable, sprung valves, dual gauges, adjustable brew pressure, rotary pumping and tank or mains-water selection. Later units also advertise Fast Heat Up. The machine does not provide volumetric stop, brew-by-weight, automatic milk, app control or current-model lifecycle. Value: compare complete ownership on the same date

The checked US page is retired, so a historical roughly $3,000 class is context rather than a current offer. A used Pro 700 can still make sense when condition, service records, water history, included plumbing parts, flow-control hardware and seller protection justify the price. Compare the total station with Profitec DRIVE, LELIT Bianca, ECM Synchronika II and Rocket R58 on current warranty, profiling, warm-up, pump, water supply, service access and delivered accessories. A low asking price loses meaning if scale, leaks, shipping damage or missing installation parts create immediate work. [source] [source]

11Owner evidence in proportion

What owner discussions add, and what they cannot prove

Owners repeatedly value quiet rotary-pump operation, independent boiler control, steam reserve and plumbing convenience. Recurring cautions include E61 warm-up, counter depth, water quality, manual shot stopping, optional flow-control calibration and buying an older revision at too small a discount. These patterns guide inspection without establishing a failure rate or lifespan.

Owner accounts are self-selected and combine years, regions, water, grinders, modifications and maintenance histories. A positive report cannot guarantee another unit, and a repaired example does not establish model-wide incidence. Retailer reviews are commercially interested, and the Australian specialist article reflects local service and pricing.

13Questions before buying

Pro 700 final generation FAQ

Is Profitec Pro 700 discontinued?

Yes in the checked manufacturer and US specialist records. The current Profitec lineup no longer lists it, Whole Latte Love marks its page as an old listing, and DRIVE occupies the successor role.

Which Pro 700 generation is reviewed?

The score applies to the final North American generation with black gauges, front PID and automatic timer, sprung valves, rotary pump and later Fast Heat Up behavior. Earlier machines differ.

Can Pro 700 connect to a water line?

Yes. The reviewed generation can use its reservoir or a regulated direct water supply through the rotary pump. Safe plumbing also requires compatible water treatment, shutoff, leak and drain planning.

Does Pro 700 include flow control?

Not universally. Retailers and owners often added a compatible flow-control kit, but base equipment varies. Inspect the group hardware and original invoice before assigning value.

How long does Pro 700 take to heat?

Later units advertise Fast Heat Up, but the large E61 group still needs a stable full-system warm state. Revision, ambient conditions and workflow change readiness, and Coffeedant did not measure it.

What is the difference between Pro 700 and DRIVE?

Both use rotary dual-boiler architecture and tank or plumbed water. DRIVE is current and adds integrated flow control, newer pre-infusion tools, Fast Heat Up and OLED feedback as part of the factory design.

Is a used Pro 700 still worth buying?

It can be when the discount, exact generation, condition, service records, water history, included parts and seller protection are convincing. Compare that complete risk with a current warranted alternative.

What should I inspect before buying?

Confirm voltage, serial, generation, boiler fill and heat, pump behavior, leaks, scale evidence, gauges, PID, valves, E61 movement, flow-control modification, plumbing fittings, portafilters and return protection.

The buying decision

Choose Pro 700 when a verified used machine earns its permanent place

The final Profitec Pro 700 remains a capable traditional espresso platform. Independent boiler control, a large steam boiler, E61 group, rotary pump, timer, gauges and tank or plumbing flexibility create a serious home workflow.

Its current limitation is lifecycle and verification. The machine is discontinued, generations differ, flow control is not universal, and a heavy plumbable dual boiler can hide expensive water or service problems when history is unclear.

Buy a documented unit when condition, price, included hardware and seller protection make sense. Start with DRIVE for the current Profitec, Bianca for integrated profiling, Synchronika for a current German alternative, or Pro 600 when a smaller reservoir machine is enough.
